SUCCESS STORY

"I have a history of back pain. In 2005, I started having issues in my low back and IT band from too much running, biking and not enough yoga and stretching. I tried several treatments including chiropractic care and acupuncture before going to an orthopedist who diagnosed me with a bulging disc. He recommended physical therapy and taking a break from exercising. I did my physical therapy daily and after a month the situation was worse. At this point, I had a series of steroid injections under x-ray, into my SI joints along with my L5 vertebrae. After 6 months of these, I had less pain, but pain nonetheless. During this time all forms of exercise had ceased, but at some point I decided that I needed to be active again and started stretching and strengthening my back. I remember my first day of walking; in 20 minutes I probably did not complete half a mile, and it was so painful. As I was trying to walk, I remembered I use to run 6 miles without even thinking about it. I kept up the walking, adding distance and this produced results. After a few months I was able to start biking and running again in small doses. I thought the situation was solved.

A little over a year ago, I was beginning to have issues with my IT band again so I started stretching trying to relieve the tightness. During this time, I saw an article on Active Release Techniques, ART, and thought it was something that might help me. I looked for a local provider and I still remember when Lori called me to set up an appointment. I was still biking and running, but there was pain in my back and leg. Bending over took time and throwing my leg over the bike was an adventure. I went to see her, and in half an hour I went from not being able to easily bend over to bending over with no pain and no discomfort. The procedure/treatment that Lori utilizes is relatively painless and works quickly. I was hooked and I told everyone I met. I told my yoga instructor who went and saw her for a similar issue and she has been pain free since. I told a woman with whom I work who had been forced to give up running due to calf pain. After receiving treatment from Lori, she is running up to 5 miles and has now started sprinting again. Not only will I keep seeing Lori for any pain or discomforts but I will make her a part of my health and wellness program."

"Several years ago, I was having shoulder pain during and after a work out. It was so intense that I could not put on my sports coat without assistance. After much insistence from my wife, I went to an orthopedist for treatment. He was amazed about my bone structure. It turns out that my clavicle slopes down instead of going straight across. He was so impressed by the perfect clinical example of this that he gathered other doctors in his practice to come and see. I left the office that day after receiving a cortisone shot knowing my shoulder issues would not go away. After not exercising for six weeks, I was able to move my arm with limited pain.

I was seeing Lori for a back problem when she noticed my sloping shoulder. I told her the issue and that I had pain occasionally. She looked at it and did some Active Release and all of a sudden this clinical condition was not nearly as bad. Since then, I have continued to see Lori in order to better deal with the shoulder issues and the continued pain. It can get to the point that I can not sleep, but, thanks to Lori and ART, I am able to lift weights, do yoga, and stay off NSAIs and painkillers. According to her, my shoulder is the worst she has ever seen about the muscles not moving correctly. (You willl have to ask her the specifics.)"
